With age comes wisdom, or at least we hope so. Rather than the absolutes in life, most of us tend to moderate our thinking and soften a bit as we mature. We replace words like always and never with maybe or perhaps. I’ve noticed this of myself when it comes to navigating relationships, selecting books to read, or even how I style my hair. But as a stylist and personal shopper, and someone who truly adores the entire in-person shopping experience, I knew I would “never” buy clothing for myself on-line. It removes the ability to see the true colors, feel the texture of fabrics, and try-on pieces for fit, not to mention eliminating the fun factor.
Then Covid-19 hit, and I took the plunge! Not because I was bored, or just wanted something new for when life returns to a more normal state. My shopping was born of necessity. Like many of you, I’ve been living in leggings and tank tops during the day for working out, cooking, reading or playing Scrabble with my husband. Then, in the evening, I change into something more comfortable (is that even possible?) which means my one pair of super lightweight capri sweats and a fresh tank top. Can you spot my dilemma? Yes, I needed more sweats to lounge in since my only pair is getting a bit worn after so much wash and wear.
I’m sure I spent way more time on Amazon searching for what I wanted than most people. There were in-seam lengths, fabric content, color tones, and sizing charts to consider. In the end, I purchased two pair of supposedly super soft, mostly cotton sweatpants in different shades of gray. They won’t arrive for another week, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I love them. After all, I “always” say to my clients, that if you don’t love something, don’t buy it!
P.S. And since we’re on the topic of online shopping, have you been wondering like I have, if anyone is buying any spring fashions from the daily emails from Neiman’s, Saks or Nordstrom? Well, I have it on good authority that during the pandemic, women are buying facial products, make-up and pajamas. At least we can all look great for Zoom meetings and parties!
That was a great Blog Post, there is nothing like buying in a store. I too have bought a few things on Amazon to wear at this time to “hang” in , but they won’t be in my closet for long do to quality and overuse…LOL

I agree with you completely – The only things I am buying online are surgical face masks, an apartment sized exercise bike and ink cartridges – If I can’t shop for clothing and accessories in person, and really fully envelope myself in the process and all the accompanying pleasures, I don’t even have the desire to do it! I’ll be back in the shops with you, as soon as this is behind us all!!
