Fashion takes a back seat for those of us who are housebound during the Coronavirus. Well, at least we get to lounge around in our favorite comfy clothes. Even if working from home, whatever we have in the closet will do in times like this.
I admit to wearing my oldies but goodies everyday, including while waiting in line at Trader Joe’s or Costco. Hopefully, our lives will return to some form of normal in the not too distant future, as we resume regular routines. At that point, we may start thinking about fashion again.
In the meantime, however, this is a great time to take stock of our closets. Think of it as spring-cleaning. Let’s donate or consign pieces that we know we will never wear again. Pull out those items that don’t fit, are out of style, or ones we never loved in the first place and only purchased because they were on sale. Next, identify the pieces that just need a little tailoring such as taking in or letting out the seams a bit, changing the buttons to give the piece a new look, or shortening a hem length.
Then, it’s time to think about what’s missing in your wardrobe, down to individual pieces, including accessories. For example, you may be without a great pair of white jeans that you could coordinate with a few chic t-shirts and a lightweight blazer. Or consider tracking down a flowy, pleated skirt and a small cross body bag to compliment that blazer to create a look right out of Vogue magazine. There may be complete new looks you are considering for work or play, or better pieces to replace what you gave away.
Lastly, think about “playing” in your closet. Try on different combinations of what you already own and see what new, great outfits you can create. Don’t over-think this. Try patterns of similar color palettes together. Grab casual pieces and pair them with dressier ones to create sophisticated looks. Or see how different jewelry, belts, shoes and handbags can totally change the look of an existing outfit. No rules here, just fun.
But if all of this seems like too much effort on your own, save it for when the “stay at home” is lifted, and I’d be delighted to assist you!
Great to hear from you, Karen! I have been living in yoga leggings and look forward to when the day actually calls for something else. I am planning to clean out my closet, but as for trying new combinations… That’s probably better left to you, and I look forward to that as well!

Hi Karen! Of course, another great email update. Your comments are right on, and as usual, helpful.
Looking forward to seeing you again at Sagewood.

These are great suggestions! I was already planning to clean out my closet and hadn’t considered the other activities you shared here. Thanks, Karen!
